Formation in the Society of Mary involves the following stages:
1. Aspirant stage
This is a time to be in contact with the Society of Mary while at home, by occasionally visiting its convents and experiencing the life of its members.
2. Application period
This is a time to live in the Society of Mary aspirantate and discern your vocation.
3. Training period
After being officially accepted into the Society of Mary, you will study the spirit and way of life of the Society for a designated period of time. After one or two years of training, you will take your first vows.
4. Term of Vows
This is the period during which one repeats one-year fixed-term vows and one's vocation is confirmed. This period is usually three years (the maximum is nine years).
5. Lifelong vows
Upon completing the required period of vows, one's status as a member of the Society of Mary is determined.
At this time, the decision is made whether to become a priest or a lay religious. In either case, the members profess the vows of perseverance, which are specific to the Society of Mary.
Those who are called to the priesthood receive theological training as prescribed by the Catholic Canon Law, Marianist spirituality, charisms, etc., and receive the spiritual and pastoral training necessary for priests. Members aspiring to the priesthood are primarily committed to the spiritual service and spiritual growth of the members of the Society of Mary.
6. Period of continuing training
After taking lifelong vows, members have a lifelong need to deepen and grow in their vocation. This period will continue for the rest of their lives.
